What the heck do all the numbers on artist graphite pencils mean?

F... 3 H... B... 5 B...

Is it some kind of code? The short answer is yet it is. The long answer is that it isn't that hard to understand once you know the basics. This video will teach you how to decode these numbers and letters on the pencils, and also what blending tools you can use.

I hope you find this intro to graphite pencils and blenders helpful.

John Wayne
This art print is of an original graphite pencil portrait drawing by me of John Wayne, The Duke himself. This piece was very important for me to draw because it reminds me of eating popcorn and watching John Wayne movies over and over again with my dad. I drew this, framed it in a barn wood frame and a maroon mat in order to really make it pop and gave it to a dear friend of the family to hang with his collection of John Wayne memorabilia. It brought me much joy to see the awe in his face, and how proud of me he was when he opened his present.

While the original is not for sale, I do have art prints available so you can make the John Wayne enthusiast in your life experience the same joy that my dad did when he opened his present.

The John Wayne art print available is printed on acid free paper and available in 8 1/2" x 11" or 11" x 14" sizes. This art print would be a great addition to your art collection or your John Wayne memorabilia collection.

Please note that due to mat and frame sizes, portions of the print might be cut off when you frame and/or mount it.
